calcium and magnesium carbonate.

Depending on the level of these minerals, you’ll see a white sediment form in the pot. This is the same mineral deposit that form inside water heaters, tea pots, and coffeemakers.

Once the water has boiled for a few minutes, turn off the heat and let it cool down.

After cooling, you won’t be able to “strain out” the sediment with a sieve or vegetable strainer, but a paper coffee filter will work. Your soft water can now be used for various household tasks, like cooking, cleaning, or watering plants.
